Newsletter and free resource requests
When you request the Mindset Guide or Poker Math Cheat Sheet, Kit receives your email address and manages your subscription and resource delivery. You can unsubscribe using the link in any newsletter.
We also measure successful resource requests separately from new newsletter subscriptions. To match these records, your browser sends a SHA-256 digest of your email to our tracking service; it does not send the email itself to that service. We replace this digest with a keyed identifier for matching. Kit sends signed subscription notifications to the service, which processes the email in memory to make the same match. These identifiers are pseudonymous, not anonymous.
The measurement record can include which resource you requested, subscription and confirmation times, a random request ID, campaign labels from the landing page, and the referring website’s domain. Missing campaign information stays unknown. The tracking database does not retain plaintext email addresses, names, full referring URLs, or your submitted form fields.
The website also uses the Meta Pixel and Google Analytics for website and advertising measurement. For new, confirmed newsletter subscriptions, our server-side Meta integration sends a coded (SHA-256 hashed) email address, the requested resource, the time of subscription, browser user agent and available Meta advertising cookie identifiers only when you choose the optional advertising-measurement checkbox. Meta may match these details to its users to measure advertising. Leaving the checkbox unchecked does not affect your download or newsletter subscription. The choice applies to this page visit and is not saved for future visits. You can uncheck it to stop pending delivery while the page remains open; information already delivered to Meta cannot be recalled by that control. A browser Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal keeps this integration off. This control covers the new server-side newsletter measurement; the website’s existing Pixel and Analytics integrations are separate.
Kit manages subscriptions, Railway hosts the tracking service and PostgreSQL database in its European region, and Vercel hosts the website. Meta and Google process the events sent to their respective services. These providers may process information internationally under their own data-protection terms.
Short-lived request matching records are deleted after 24 hours, minimized notification records after 30 days, and delivery matching details after seven days. Verified signup context is retained to match later email confirmation, with advertising matching details removed after seven days. We retain resource-request totals, the pseudonymous first-subscription record, and existing-subscriber exclusion records to avoid counting repeat downloads or recreated accounts as new acquisitions. What the Downswing Tool collects
When you use the tool, we collect your email address and the poker information you submit, including the game, stakes, volume, downswing scenario, and optional context you provide for personalized advice.
How we use it
- To calculate and email your downswing report.
- To personalize the advice shown in the tool.
- To subscribe you to Phil Galfond’s newsletter. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link.
- To understand how the tool is used and improve it.
The safety-check answer is used only in your browser and is not sent to us. Your exact bankroll may be transmitted to generate advice, but it is not retained; only a broad bankroll range may be saved with your subscriber profile.
Services we use
Kit manages newsletter subscriptions and related subscriber fields. Resend delivers report emails. Vercel hosts the website and report service. Google Analytics receives privacy-limited usage events that do not include your email, bankroll, or exact poker inputs.
Retention and deletion
Your newsletter subscription remains in Kit until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. Service providers may retain delivery and security logs under their own retention schedules. To request access to or deletion of your information, email newsletter@philgalfond.com.
Important note
The Downswing Tool is educational. Poker involves risk of loss, and its results are model estimates rather than financial, legal, or mental-health advice.
